Hats off to Clinton Cards……
Strolling around that there London yesterday, just by Bank underground station and not a Pearly King’s jig away from the grand old lady of Fred Needle Street, we happened upon a Clinton Card shop. As is customary with us oop-northerners when passing a shop, we had a right good gawp in – to see if there was anything interesting therein.
Well, you could have knocked me over with a well slimy, jellied eel and no mistake guv’nor.
For there, in all its red ‘n’ whiteyness was the biggest display of St George’s Day cards I’ve ever seen. Well, let me clarify – it’s the only display of St George’s cards
I’ve ever seen.
I just could not believe it. A whole aisle devoted to St Gee. Not only lots of different reasonably priced cards (5 for £2.55p), but also flags, patriotic pens, key-rings and badges.
It was great to see, not only because they were on show – but the mere fact that Clinton Cards reckon there is such a big market out there in England-land in the first place. And thus translating that into such a large commitment to space within the shop.
Earth to Tone, Mike and Chas – get your manifestoed fingers out of your pontificating celtic backsides and recognise the nation – before it comes back to bite you.
Note, if you go onto the Clinton Card web site - http://www.clintoncards.co.uk/ASP/front/default.asp
You will find St Gee’s is the card of the month.

"pontificating celtic backsides"
OK, I can see the celtic connection with Chas and Tone... but Mike??? Surely his roots lie in Transylvania.
I have a flag of St George permanently in my spare room window. Though I confess it has "NUFC" embroidered on it.
In my office we are celebrating wiht Fish and chips at Lunch time, and cream teas in the afternoon - though we will of course be celebrating a day early.
Wasn't Big St "G" a Russian?
I thought he was Turkish. But what's the fuss? We are such a mongrel nation I don't think it means anything, although I'm sure that the UKIP little Englanders and the BNP would love to see the flags flying.
Now, now, Wulvern - don't fall into the trap. Patriotism does not equal Little Englandism. I bet you don't hold those views about Little Irishers, Little Scotlanders, Little USAers......or Little anywhere else for that matter.... just those from Blighty. You shouldn't have such repressed guilt about being English. Honestly Wulvern, when I don my England footy jersey, I hardly ever feel the need to do a bit of goose stepping and invade Poland.....
Anyway 'Little Englander' was a phrase originally concocted to illustrate England NOT busy bodying into other nations business. And as regard the hackneyed 'mongrel nation' taunt - utter rubbish I'm afraid - if that credo held any water at all then why do most yanks have flags, swear allegiance every day and generally get watery eyed over just about anything to do with their country - the USA, probably the most canine of mongrel nations on Earth.
And finally, you've mixed your geographical metaphors up a bit there bud. 'UKIP' is a 'United Kingdom' centric party and the BNP is a 'British' centric party - so they are not Little Englanders. They both have union jack branding within their party identities......not St G's.

A Little-englander
Alfie - they've done this for a few years. I've got St G keyrings, car stickers and stuff.
Gareth. Well said mate. I am totally pissed off with the pathetic "Little Englander" shite being trotted out every time we English dare to get patriotic. What are these people afraid of? Try telling an Irishman he's nothing but a Little Irelander at the next St Pat's Parade and see how long you're left vertical.
In Liverpool (where else?) The Council have told a shop to take down all their St George's decorations - they say it's a safety hazard!
Well I've hung my St.George flag out (even if my good lady thinks it makes us look common) and I'm off into town to celebrate.
Happy St.George's Day to all.
Here is my St George's Day post, which links to Alfred the OK:
If the Tories win England - Brown is in deep trouble
http://scottish-independence.blogspot.com/2005/04/if-tories-win-england-brown-is-in-deep.html
Excerpt: "... There is no way Gordon Brown can become Prime Minister if he faces these two "legitimacy double whammies":
1. Labour in 2nd place in the percentage share of the vote.
2. The Tories winning in England (but not the whole UK) in terms of actual seats.
The people of England will just not have it... "
Reference your final paragraph in reply to my original post: just a coincidence that the BNP chose Saturday as the launch date for their Manifesto?
Reference my article on the BNP to see how wrong you are anonymous - in their hearts they are Brits not English.

They hate the fact that the English are reasserting their Englishness.
I have been surfing the net for awhile and it feels like it is taking forever to find the information I need. Finally some progress when I found your blog. I really enjoyed your most recent post.
Thanks,
